Why NFF failed to pay the Super Falcons – Lai Mohammed
The issue of non-payment of allowances and
bonus to the super falcons has been blamed on the biting economic
situation in the country.
The
Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated clearly
that economic hardship is responsible lack of money to pay the players.
The Senate on Wednesday, December 7,
ordered its committee on sports to investigate the Ministry of Sports
and Youth Development and Nigeria Football Federation over non-payment
of stranded super falcons’ allowances and match bonuses.
According to report, the probe is to be extended to
non-payment of super eagles’ allowances and other national teams.
Meanwhile,
the super falcons have insisted that they have seized the African Women
Cup of Nations (AWCON) which they won after beating hosts Cameroon on
Saturday, December 3, until the authorities concerned offset their match
bonuses and allowances.
It was gathered that Dr. Mohammed Sanusi,
the NFF general secretary, had earlier visited the team and also begged
the players to be patient.
Sanusi attempted to give them N50000 each as transport fare but the players rejected.
