Provide Frame Work for Gender Equality

Lack of adequate framework for promotion and protection of women and girl child rights has been identified as a major challenge in Nigeria, particularly the northern part of the country even as it has been responsible for gender inequality.

This observation was made by Zubairu Jide Atta a resource person at the just concluded two day workshop organized by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations entity for gender equality on empowerment of women, in collaboration with the government of Nigeria held at Homtel Hotel Yola over the week, said the training was necessary considering the discrimination openly shown to women in some part of the country.

The Resource person at the workshop lamented the untold hardship women and children are facing right now in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States as  result of the insurgency been experienced within the past three years is clearly enough to showcase what northern women have been facing since time immemorial.
Zubairu Jide told the participants that the workshop was organized to train female journalists on how to channel their reports on gender related issue especially on women, peace, security and safety during occasion.

He said, issues concerning women, peace and security can only be handled with the media which is the most vital tool that always set the pace in mainstreaming gender equality he explained.

Jide Atta said that after the training of the workshop female journalist are expected to create more public awareness that can lead to the understanding and acceptability of gender equality in Northern Nigeria, which at the end will ensure peaceful coexistence between women and their male counterparts.

According to him the workshop was aimed at increasing access to reporting mechanism and protection of girls and women affected by human right abuses and to also reduced intense of gender based violence.
