"Nigeria can only be salvaged through a revolution." - Balarabe Musa.

Balarabe Musa will ever remain my mentor. Since I was in the university and he was the governor for Kaduna state for 18 months, I have been his great admirer.

As a PRP faithful and the secretary of ABU student wing of the party when the second republic was born, i have been hailing all his actions to date. During earlier days of his governance of Kaduna state, we used to visit him in kaduna where we were asked to produce posters of the oppressive and exploitative feudal system which we did with excitement. We were under the able leadership of our patron the late Yusuf Bala Usman who was then the SSG. You could notice that he was very serious of enthroning a corruption free society when you compare his governance with that of Abubakar Rimi. Whenever we were in Kano, we were treated lavishly. We were Provided with very expensive accommodation with all kinds of drinks both beverages and alcohol and at the end we were provided with transport and some money. It was purely a pleasure trip. But not Balarabe Musa as we were only provided with accommodation with only food and no any kind of drink and we did serious intellectual work through out the night. The next day we were transported in government house bus, no money.

But believe me despite the dryness of the government of kaduna, we preferred going to Balarabe Musa because he was a role model and the real champion of the masses.

I had finished my NYSC in 1981 and was working in my state for not more than 6 months when he was impeached. I wept that day and was completely down cast and barely ate. In fact it was not easy to sleep that night.

He was impeached because he refused to shared his government with the reactionary NPN dominated house of Assembly. He was Mr clean and refused the plunder of the resources of Kaduna state. He was impeached because he was highly principled. He was impeached because he did not adhere to ethnic and religious bigotry. He was impeached because he spoke the truth. He was impeached because he wanted to take kaduna to the next level. He was impeached because he was dealing decisively with oppressors and exploiters. He was impeached because he championed the cause of the masses. He was impeached because...... I can go on and on.

The man is a septuagenarian now and old age has not slowed his progressive thoughts.
All hail thee- the great champion of the talakawas. God bless you with good health.
