Mouriho In Love With African Players

By: Fenny J. Fwa

Prejudice is one of the most cancerous diseases in management and this prejudice could be as a result of racism, ethnic or religious bigotry. Some times this prejudice is so entrenched that persons displaying such weaknesses could do it even at the expense of their progress.

I am talking about this disease in the context of football management. Some managers allow racism to be becloud their team selection. This is an area you will never accuse the special one Mouriho because he selects his players based on his criteria as he looks for most players that are physically strong and have in abundance incredible stamina. This is why he is in love with African players. Imagine coughing out about £100m to buy Pogba a black player. He brought Drogba, Mikel Obi, pepe, Zuma, and several other black players to the limelight. The same thing with Arsine Wenger of Arsenal. At one time, there were 7 players in the first eleven of Arsenal team. Up to today, several of his players are blacks. Presently, there 2 Nigeria players in team namely Iwobi and Akpom. Conte of Chelsea is also not racially challenged because his team comprised of all colours of people. Ditto for Jurgen Klopp.

There are however some coaches that are racially challenged and Pep Gourdiola of Man city is one of them. The man displays this latent racism even to the extent that it is affecting his performance. These are some decisions of his that portrays him as racist.

Samuel Eto was doing very well at Barca. For 3 years he was the highest goal scorer at Barca and capped it with the highest goal scorer in Europe. Then came Gourdiola after working with him for one year( and that was the year he became the highest goal scorer in Europe), he asked him to leave and went to inter Milan where he helped Mouriho win the UEFA cup and it was Eto in the semi final against Barca that he scored the goal that destroyed Barca and when he scored he was busy showing the colour of his skin to drive his point home that he was victim of racism at Barca. The same prejudice I will say affected his relationship with Yahya Toure. Here was a player- the maestro of the midfield of Barca, playing very well, but Gourdiola insisted he must leave and he left. Came to man city and helped the club win the elusive EPL twice. Then pep came to Man city and made Yahya football carrier very miserable. He refused to field him for matches. Out of frustration, the man and his manager made some uncomplimentary remarks which further compounded their already cold relationship. Well he was asked to apologized which he did. Pep realizing he was declining in performance and needed strong and powerful players like Yahya, today he grudgingly fielded him and the man didn't disappoint as he scored the two goals that gave the maximum points against Crystal palace.

I must stay that I'm great admirer of Pep because he plays attractive and attack minded games. But his penchant to emphasize skillful players at the total expense of physical and robust play of Africans has been causing him game after after game. Here is Yahya Toure that is so strong that he is difficult to bring down and to dispossess him with the ball. He runs very well with the ball and has amazing shots in his legs that most of the time result in to goals. And this is a man beside the colour of his skin one can't understand why pep has been frustrating him.

The earlier pep discarded his entrenched prejudice, the better for him otherwise his may experience decline in his burgeoning coaching career.
